I shutter to think of all the things that are squirreled away in attics and storage places that could be put back into the flow of life … I too am glad it's at the Bellarmine Center now. Thanks for this information, Mark. Next time I am in Louisville, I will stop by. One of my very good friends lives on the edge of the Bellarmine campus - her husband is a professor there.beth cioffolettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300116274007165612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-54123348908772859002014-04-03T13:50:18.948-05:002014-04-03T13:50:18.948-05:00I did some research and it seems that the statue w...I did some research and it seems that the statue was in storage at Gethsamini for years before it came to Bellarmine. Its also on loan there as opposed to the papers which are permanent. Its quite sad honestly but great that it's now displayed and enjoyed at the center.Marknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-67034696356965837262014-04-02T13:20:00.978-05:002014-04-02T13:20:00.978-05:00Hmmm. Just that it seems to me that sculptures are made for an environment/place and can't be "lifted" from their surroundings without losing something. I could be wrong.beth cioffolettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300116274007165612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-72060072816805184372014-04-02T12:48:42.527-05:002014-04-02T12:48:42.527-05:00The photo on Merton.org is in the Thomas Merton ce...The photo on Merton.org is in the Thomas Merton center at Bellarmine University.Marknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-14407689214873291692014-04-01T23:33:07.402-05:002014-04-01T23:33:07.402-05:00Thanks, Mark. That's definitely a clearer photo...Thanks, Mark. That's definitely a clearer photo of the statue. Interesting that this photo looks like the statue if inside, where the one that Merton took looks like it is outside. Perhaps they moved it?beth cioffolettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300116274007165612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-74093392174208848762014-04-01T20:14:44.835-05:002014-04-01T20:14:44.835-05:00Couldn't find a book but it is on the Merton.o...Couldn't find a book but it is on the Merton.org homepage from Bellarmine. Yes, Merton's very monastic vocation seems to rest in his devotion to Our Lady. He died before even gender sensitive language became the norm and his relationships with women theologians could be complicated. He questioned even how his "white" privilege affected his vocation and was moving away from institutional monasticism in his final years.

If you find the photo of the Andrade sculpture, I'd love to see it.beth cioffolettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300116274007165612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-822894759353679437.post-57632505597895349342014-03-29T16:26:51.000-05:002014-03-29T16:26:51.000-05:00This is a wonderful post. I believe that there is a picture of this sculpture in a book that I am having trouble recalling. Any thoughts?Marknoreply@blogger.com
