He really does show a way.<br /><br />According to Paul Spaeth at the Lax archives (St. Bonaventure), Lax depended upon his family for money to get by. Merton sent him the dividends from his inherited stock. He lived simply, but still he had to pay the rent and he didn't make it a priority to write for publication. I'd guess Lax had to solve problems each day, be concerned about money, but here he resides in peace and able to grow, not about getting and spending and success with goals.
