Enfolded in weakness and hope

“When you die, you fall asleep. And you wake up, and there’s a very gentle peace. You feel well. And then you discover the face of God coming through that ‘wellness’. "
- Speaking to the Tablet in 2017

“But let us not put our sights too high. We do not have to be saviours of the world! We are simply human beings, enfolded in weakness and in hope, called together to change our world one heart at a time.”
- Becoming Human

Jean Vanier died early this morning, just outside of Paris. RIP.

  1. Thankyou thankyou

Enfold is one of my more favorite words
A word that embraces all possibilities
so this poem of some time ago -------------

    Enfold

    Soft and silent
    all the world
    fresh turning earth
    set in her course -

    Provadence of moonlight
    bowed flowers to dark
    illusions
    known in the mind
    reality alive in heart -

    Shadows of consciousness
    transparens away
    the envelope of night
    enfolds the day ________________________________

      I especially like:

      illusions
      known in the mind

    1. Here's a comment: I believe your line, no choice but to live the mystery, is true but difficult. And I liked the link to the quotes of Vanier, from the wonderful book Becoming Human, that Beth added. So much that Vanier says is needed now, especially in this country that we love.

  3. Dunno about this list being lost, bob, but I like the idea of it wandering in a desert. I often hear from readers and they come from all over. There is a stat counter on here and the site usually gets from 75-100 hits a day. Most are not of the latest posting, but from the archived posts. I think Google leads many here. Anyway, I continue to enjoy putting together the eclectic collection. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

  4. Somebody from the Deitrich Bonhoeffer Society who is a louie reader so liked the recent Bonhoeffer posting (transcribed from a Robert Ellsburg Tweet) that he put it on the front page of their publication.

Another reader regularly quotes from louie onto Twitter.

    And so it goes.

This louie place isn't always a dead end.
