I'm coming around to this idea of the Merton movie. This is a development pitch that was made in 2010 before the script was written. I love the way they have portrayed Merton's relationship with Abbot Fox.

So much of Merton remains with me after decades of struggle with religion. It helps knowing he himself never stopped struggling, or at least coping. I like him best when he's talking about the monastery barn.

I know what you mean, Frank, about Merton being what is left after trudging through all the "religion". I'm curious about the monastery barn. With all my Merton reading, I don't remember much about the barn. I do remember James Finley talking about how Merton told him to pay more attention to the pigs than to his spiritual status.
